Actor Richard Harmon (The CW’s “The 100”) chatted with Digital Journal’s Markos Papadatos about being a part of the new film “The Return,” which premieres On Demand and digital on August 10.
“My experience on ‘The Return’ was fantastic,” he admitted. “Seeing BJ Verot’s passion for this movie was incredible. The entire crew was awesome, and I am a huge horror movie fan.”
Harmon plays the role of Rodger Emmerlich in the movie. Rodger returns home from college with two friends to settle the affairs of his recently deceased father. They begin to experience weird and unsettling occurrences in the house. “I like my character Rodger because he is not perfect, he is very flawed. He is going through a lot but he is very smart,” he explained.
Rodger is soon plagued by strange childhood memories about a haunting by a ghostly presence. These memories boil over into reality culminating in an intense showdown with the terror that has come back.
The thriller “The Return” was directed by BJ Verot, and it also stars Echo Andersson, Marina Stephenson Kerr, Zoe Fish, Erik Athavale, and Gwendolyn Collins. “I hope the fans find entertainment, joy, and fun in this film,” he said.
On being an actor in the digital age, he said, “My career hasn’t really changed much. It’s the same thing to do no matter what show or movie I do. It doesn’t change my job, which is lovely. I love my job, to begin with, so that can stay the same to me.”
Harmon had great words about working with photographer Brad Everett Young and being a part of his Dream Loud campaign, which works on preserving arts and music programs in schools. “I love Brad,” he said. “It was fantastic to work with him on his Dream Loud campaign and to also work with him as a photographer was fantastic.”
Regarding his daily motivations as an actor, he shared that he is “driven by fear.” “I’m motivated by the fear of not getting to do this for the rest of my life,” he said. “I have a lot of actor friends that have that same fear. The first thing that ever stressed me out was my job when I was younger. I still don’t want to fail at it and that still drives me today. I love my job and I want to do it until the day that I die. Hopefully, that is a long time down the road.”
He acknowledged that being on “The 100” on The CW “absolutely changed his life.” “I probably wouldn’t have had ‘The Return’ without that. It’s one giant domino effect. It completely changed my life. I wouldn’t be in the house that I have without it, I even met my girlfriend on that show. It’s the best opportunity that I have had so far,” he said.
For young and aspiring actors, Harmon encouraged them to “have patience.” Keep working and hone your skills,” he said. “Patience more than anything else.”
On the title of the current chapter of his life, he said, “Overwhelmed… but in a good way.” “Soon, after this interview, the title of my life would be ‘Caffeinated’ since I would have my coffee,” he said.
For his fans, he remarked, “Thank you for being there with me. It has been a turbulent ride at times, but thank you for watching. I hope that I can continue to entertain you.”
Harmon defined the word success as being able to “work until the day he dies.” “Acting is my favorite thing in the world, it always has been and it always will be. I love to be on set and I love to work,” he concluded.
