They opened their set with Zac Brown Band’s latest single “Beautiful Drug,” and it was followed by the mellow “Toes,” which was ideal for the summer season, as well as “The Wind.”
Zac Brown Tribute Band immediately broke into “No Hurry” and the upbeat “Let It Go”; moreover, they covered Dave Matthews Band’s “Ants Marching.” They took their fans on a trip down memory lane with the ballad “Day That I Die,” which featured their strong harmonies.
They paid tribute to Ray LaMontagne by singing “Jolene,” which should not be confused with the Dolly Parton classic. It was followed by “It’s Not OK,” and an added bonus was the inclusion of Ryan Adams’ “Oh My Sweet Carolina” in their set, which was a rich and haunting rendition.
Out of all of their Zac Brown tunes, the highlight vocal was the infectious “Homegrown,” which made the audience sing along. They closed with “Free” and Zac Brown’s signature song “Chicken Fried.”
The Verdict
Overall, Zac Brown Tribute Band was impressive at Mulcahy’s. They are the closest thing to the original group, and they do their music justice. Their show at Mulcahy’s garners 4.5 out of 5 stars. They are worth seeing live whenever they are in New York.
