Review: Zac Brown Band rocks on new album ‘Jekyll + Hyde’ (Includes first-hand account)

Their album begins with the upbeat and catchy “Beautiful Drug,” which immerses the listener into the latest studio effort. It is followed by the mellow and laid-back “Loving You Easy,” which features soothing background vocals, as well as the Christian tune “Remedy.”

Homegrown” is a stand-out track and the album’s lead, chart-topping country single. “Mango Tree” is a collaboration with Sara Bareilles, while “Heavy is the Head” features spitfire rock vocals from Soundgarden front-man Chris Cornell.

“Bittersweet” is a prime acoustic ballad that ought to be enjoyed for its beauty and simplicity. “Castaway” has a reggae vibe to it, while “Tomorrow Never Comes” is up-tempo and melodically-stunning, where the listener can clap along. “One Day” has a neat groove to it, while “Dress Blues” is somewhat haunting. “Young And Wild” is refreshing and liberating, with a youthful vibe. “Junkyard” is flat out rock, and “I’ll Be Your Man (Song For A Daughter)” is the quintessential father-daughter dance tune at a wedding ceremony.

The album closes with “Wildfire” and acoustic version of the raw and powerful “Tomorrow Never Comes.”

The Verdict

Overall, Zac Brown Band delivers on their newest CD. It earns 4 out of 5 stars.
