Review: ‘Your Lie In April’ EP 14 addresses the ‘Lies’

Episode 14 of Your Lie In April, titled “Footsteps,” is currently streaming on Crunchyroll for all premium members. Free members can watch this same episode less than seven days from now.

Kosei had no choice than to do a solo with his piano at the gala concert because Kaori, his partner, did not show up. It makes me wonder the reason that Kaori did not show up, which I suspect had something to do with her unknown medical condition.

I kind of wish that Kaori would just tell Kosei that she has medical complications.

Kaori’s spiteful glare at Kosei was funny, which added lighthearted humor to the scene. I am surprised that Kaori can still be funny at a time like this.

Kosei obviously cares and as feelings for Kaori. It is safe to say that Kaori feels the same way about Kosei, but I think Tsubaki has strong feelings for him as well. I love Tsubaki’s emergency defense response when her friend Kashiwagi brought it up.

That was random and incredibly funny even though I feel bad for Kashiwagi.

I like how Kaori is trying to keep things funny, but I feel it is a defense mechanism she is employing out of guilt for not being there for Kosei when she persuaded him to perform with her. Kaori collapsed, which is out of her control, but there is a strong sense of guilt for letting Kosei down when he needed her.

Kosei’s angry response made me laugh, too.

This was an enjoyable episode that got sad at the end. It paints the reality of how you must leave your friends and loved ones to find your path. I would call Kosei “selfish” for not realizing Tsubaki’s feelings, but she needs to acknowledge them and tell him.

But, they are still in middle school. It is not like they will be separated from each other forever. I can understand how music made Tsubaki sad and depressed because she was robbed of her friend throughout elementary school.

Tsubaki is being a hypocrite, which she needs to understand, for feeling that music took her friend away even though she tried to get Kosei back into it.

Kosei is adamant about being a professional pianist, which means he has to plan ahead and Tsubaki needs to understand that.
