Episode nine of World Break: Aria of a Curse for a Holy Swordsman, titled “Lonely Soldier,” is currently streaming on Crunchyroll and FUNimation for premium members. Free members can watch the same episode seven days from now on March 15th.
Moroha keeps good on his promise in the previous episode as he plans on waging war with the Russian branch of the Six Heads. I was surprised that the episode quickly begins with a fight between Moroha and one of the Lightning Emperor’s top warriors, Bernard, but I was more surprised at the fact that the Russian man was fighting with a surfboard.
The fight becomes poetic when Moroha taps into a newly regained memory that allows him to unleash a powerful lightning spell. It is obvious that Moroha is committed to this war against the Russian branch, but is trying to keep casualties to zero.
I find that funny because it would be the biggest insult to the Lightning Emperor.
I found it funnier that Moroha would be spending his trip in Russia with Edward’s faithful servant, Angela Johnson.
It was a dark and twisted scene when Moroha stabbed Bernard in the gut and let him bleed before walking off, but it was more f—ked that he ate dinner with Angela as if nothing had happened in the first place.
I was unnerved at Bernard’s dying loyalty towards the Lightning Emperor, who killed him with her Lighting Dragon special attack.
I laughed at the awkward train cabin scene between Moroha and Angela. It was funny when Angela forcefully pushed Moroha away after she gave him a mock proposition, which he joyfully accepted. I have a feeling that Angela could end up being in Moroha’s harem.
The scene goes back to Japan, when I thought the sole focus was going to be on Moroha’s war against the Russian branch. Satsuki and Lesya drive the humor as they argue over who has the right to become Moroha’s “younger sister.”
Angela apparently has feelings for Edward, which is revealed when she talks in her sleep. Rhetorically asking, why doesn’t Moroha have a camera phone on him? This is priceless material that should go on YouTube, Facebook, and Instagram.
I enjoyed the fight scene at the end when Moroha easily dispatched the A-Ranked warriors and I think some of the females may end up joining his harem on the sole fact that he didn’t kill them. This shows that Moroha has set him up to become an international player.
The episode ends on a surprising cliffhanger when the Lightning Emperor reveals herself as a reflection in the mirror. It obviously shows that World Break: Aria of a Curse for a Holy Swordsman gets more intense with each new episode.
