Episode 2 of World Break: Aria of a Curse for a Holy Swordsman, titled “Imbue My Sword, Magic Flame!,” is currently available on Crunchyroll and FUNimation for paid subscribers on both sites and free members can watch this episode seven days from now.
The episode starts when Moroha wakes up to see another girl sitting on his lap and planting a kiss on his lips.
I laughed when the Principal opened the curtain revealing Satsuki bound and gagged as punishment for trying to get “sexual” with Moroha.
Moroha learns that he may have more than one past life, which classifies him as an “Ancient Dragon.”
I laughed when Satsuki quickly tried to kiss Moroha when he freed her from his restraints and laughed more when she was interrupted by the subtle surprise appearance by Shizuno, who wastes no time to shoot a blunt insult.
Things became funnier when Satsuki was caught off guard, which Shizuno took advantage of to plant a kiss on Moroha’s lips.
The first half of the episode barely had any action, but the story got interesting when Moroha and Shizuno were immediately recruited into the White Knight Corps, but have to risk their lives in combat against the Metaphysicals.
I felt bad for Satsuki, who was being left out.
It is obvious that Satsuki and Shizuno are competing for Moroha’s attention and affections as they both know him in their previous lives.
The outing between the two girls is interrupted by the random appearance by a Metaphysical, which I thought Moroha would be the one to finish it.
This reminded me of The Irregular At Magic High School and A Certain Magical Index because Satsuki specialized in the use of prana and Shizuno specialized in the use of mana. Shizuno reminded me of Miyuki from The Irregular At Magic High School and Sherry Cromwell from A Certain Magical Index.
If Satsuki was a character in The Irregular At Magic High School, she would be classified as a “weed.”
Watching Satsuki and Shizuno team up reminded me of how Tatsuya and Miyuki would often team up in The Irregular At Magic High School. It also reminded me of Absolute Duo, which currently streams on FUNimation.
Moroha came to save the day, but I was hoping that Satsuki and Shizuno would be able to effectively take on the Metaphysical.
I understand that Moroha is the main character of World Break, but this does send the wrong message about female heroines. It perpetuates the stereotype that a heroine is weak without a strong male hero jump in and save the day.
At least it was a good way for Moroha to activate the memories of his other previous life, where he was a dark wizard.
I have to say that this was an interesting and exciting episode to watch.
