Review: Walk the Moon amazes on new single ‘Shut Up and Dance’ (Includes first-hand account)

“Shut Up and Dance” has peaked in the Top 75 on the Billboard Hot 100 charts. It is a track from their studio album Talking Is Hard. The song has a retro 80s vibe that is reminiscent of Genesis’ chart-topping single “Invisible Touch” meets Tommy Tutone’s “867-5309 (Jenny).” Its infectious beat, clever lyrics and clapping elevate it to a higher level.

“We were victims of the night, The chemical, physical, kryptonite, Helpless to the bass and faded light, Oh, we were bound to get together,” Walk the Moon sings.

Walk the Moon is comprised of lead singer Nicholas Petricca, bassist, Kevin Ray, drummer Sean Waugaman and guitarist Eli Maiman. They opened for Panic! At The Disco this past summer. Their hometown is Cincinnati, Ohio.

The Verdict

“Shut Up and Dance” by Walk the Moon is one of the best singles that I have heard on the pop radio airwaves in quite a while. It is extremely radio-friendly, upbeat and catchy. It is the quintessential tune for DJs to blast out on the dance-floors. One thing is for sure: RCA Records sure knows talent. This refreshing single garners an A rating.
