The comedic digital series “Uncoupled,” starring Neil Patrick Harris, was released on Netflix on July 29, and it is quite compelling.

In “Uncoupled,” Harris stars as real estate agent Michael, who thought his life was perfect until his partner Colin (Tuc Watkins) blindsides him by walking out the door after 17 years.

Overnight, Michael has to confront two nightmares: losing what he thought was his soulmate and suddenly finding himself a single gay man in his mid-40s in New York City.

Tisha Campbell is hilarious as Michael’s “work wife” Suzanne, while Brooks Ashmanskas and Emerson Brooks are remarkable as his supportive friends Stanley and Billy that are there for Michael during his breakup; moreover, Oscar winner Marcia Gay Harden is fabulous as Claire, Michael’s real estate client, and they develop a friendship. Tony and Emmy winner André De Shields is sensational as Jack.

Actors Gilles Marini, David A. Gregory, Dan Amboyer, and Peter Porte all make distinct cameos as the men that Michael hooks up with, in an effort to help him move on from Colin.

“Uncoupled” is witty, clever, and melancholically beautiful.

This series was co-created by Darren Star and Jeffrey Richman. It underscores such values as communication. love, friendship, and healing. It was produced by MTV Entertainment Studios, Darren Star Productions, Jeffrey Richman Productions, and Jax Media.

The Verdict

Overall, “Uncoupled” is a compelling new series on Netflix. Compliments to Darren Star and Jeffrey Richman for bringing this refreshing series to life. It is Neil Patrick Harris like you’ve never seen him before, Harris deserves to be a contender at next year’s Emmy Awards for his acting work as Michael.

The whole cast is noteworthy, and this series has everything: humor, heartache, and warmth.

The writing is honest, raw, and resonant. This is a series that could easily be binge-watched in one sitting. Every actor brings something unique to the table. “Uncoupled” garners an A rating. Well done.
