Alex Schachter was one of 17 students that were tragically killed at the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School shooting in Parkland, Florida, on February 14. He was only 14 years old.
The teen’s dream school was always to someday attend UConn, and the college offered him posthumous admission, and they made him an honorary member.
This kind gesture inspired the Schachter family to create a marching band scholarship in Alex Schachter’s name, through the UConn Foundation. With this scholarship, his memory will be kept alive through the constant support of students that love music.
Alex’s father, Max Schachter, is the founder and CEO of Safe Schools for Alex, which was established to help protect other children and teachers, as part of a nationwide school safety commission.
This past July, Rock and Roll Hall of Fame band Chicago dedicated “25 or 6 to 4” to Alex Schachter at their West Palm Beach concert in Florida. This was his personal favorite song, and Chicago was his favorite band; ironically enough, his dream college, UConn, has now dedicated it to his memory as well.
