Review: Trace Adkins superb at The Paramount in New York (Includes first-hand account)

During his Paramount set, Adkins took his fans on a trip down memory lane with such country classics as “There’s a Girl in Texas,” “Every Light in the House” and his first No. 1 single “(This Ain’t) No Thinkin’ Thing,” all of which resonated well with his fans.

Other impressive vocals of the night included “Songs About Me,” “Chrome,” “Something’s Going On,” which is the title track of his new studio album (produced by veteran country producer Mickey Jack Cones), and the nonchalant “Just Fishin.'”

Adkins tipped his hat to Bob Seger by covering “Come to Papa” and Hall & Oates’ “Everytime You Go Away,” both of which were solid renditions. The theme song for every female audience member in The Paramount was the seductive and tempting “One Hot Mama.”

The two highlight songs of the evening was the mid-tempo and fun, chart-topping single “Ladies Love Country Boys” and the moving ballad “You’re Gonna Miss This,” the latter of which generated an enormous amount of applause. He expressed his gratitude for his fans several times.

After “I Left Something Turned On At Home,” which had a retro vibe to it, and a cover of Stevie Ray Vaughan’s “The House Is Rockin,'” Adkins closed his show on a witty and fun note with “Honky Tonk Badonkadonk.” For his encore, he returned to sing “Missing You.”
