Review: Tim McGraw releases new ‘Diamond Rings and Old Barstools’ single (Includes first-hand account)

“Diamond Rings and Old Barstools” is a melancholic tune about a failing romance, and both McGraw and Dunn capture the song’s emotions quite well. It moves up one spot on the Billboard Hot Country Airplay charts, to No. 12, after charting for 13 weeks.

“Diamond rings and old barstools, One’s for queens and one’s for fools, One’s the future and one’s the past, One’s forever and one won’t last,” McGraw sings, in the duet’s opening lyrics.

New York fans can hear Tim McGraw “Diamond Rings and Old Barstools” this summer on his “Shotgun Rider” tour. He will be playing the Nikon at Jones Beach Theater in Wantagh on June 11, along with fellow country singers Chase Bryant and Billy Currington.

The Verdict

Whether it is his wife, Faith Hill, or any other female vocalist that McGraw collaborates with (Jo Dee Messina on ‘Bring On The Rain’ or Patty Loveless on ‘Please Remember Me’), he always delivers on his duet vocal performances. Dunn’s vocals are warm and sultry, and she harmonizes well with McGraw. “Diamond Rings and Old Barstools” garners 4.5 out of 5 stars.
