Review: This duo rocks on guitar cover of Kanye West’s ‘Gold Digger’ (Includes first-hand account)

Striking Matches is made up of Sarah Zimmerman and Justin Davis. Their music video for the song was directed by Josh Kranich, and it showcases their prowess on guitar. Zimmerman is sensational on the slide guitar, and both musicians exude a great deal of soul.

The duo just completed a tour in the United Kingdom with television star Clare Bowen (from the hit series Nashville), and they are kicking off the second leg of their headlining U.S. tour on September 19 at The Satellite in Los Angeles, California. This tour will wrap up on October 12 at the Amsterdam Bar and Hall in St. Paul, Minnesota.

Striking Matches will be releasing new music this fall. Their latest EP Retrograde is available on iTunes.

The Verdict

Overall, Striking Matches delivers on their all-guitar version of Kanye West’s “Gold Digger.” They are able to twist the original Kanye West recording and make it their own. It garners an A rating.
