Review: These two singers slay Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper’s ‘Shallow’ (Includes first-hand account)

This duet performance of “Shallow” took place at The Piazza Lounge in The Tuscany Hotel in Las Vegas, and both vocalists did it justice. Emily Blick nailed Lady Gaga’s part, thanks to her powerhouse vocals, which blended well with Chris Hodgson’s rich, rumbling voice.

“Get your Kleenex out, seriously,” Blick said, prior to the performance, and rightfully so. They were joined by such musicians as Kenny Davidsen on keyboards, Keith Hubacher on bass, as well as David Ramirez on drums.

The Verdict

Overall, Emily Blick and Chris Hodgson were able to convey a wide range of raw emotions with their cover of “Shallow.” Blick was expressive and maintained great control over her voice. Hodgson was able to triumph thanks to his resonant vocals as well. They really brought the song to life, which was featured in the Oscar-nominated film A Star is Born. Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper would be proud of this stunning rendition. Their version of “Shallow” garners an A rating.

In other “Shallow” news, as Digital Journal reported, Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper took home two Grammy awards for that song, in such categories as “Best Song Written for Visual Media” and “Best Pop Duo/Group Performance.” “Shallow” is also in the running, and the front-runner, for “Best Original Song” at the forthcoming Academy Awards ceremony.
