Review: ‘The Testament of Sister New Devil’ EP 6 return to ‘fan service’

Episode six of The Testament of Sister New Devil, titled “Bearing Growing Emotions,” is currently streaming on Crunchyroll for paid members. Free members can watch this same episode six days from now on February 18th.

Mio does a s—tastic job of hiding her jealousy towards Yuki, who asked Basara to go on a shopping date with her.

The episode starts off with the usual “fan service,” but tones down on the sex and focuses in “dating” instead. Again, Mio is obviously jealous of Yuki.

The story quickly turns to a twist when a demon attacks only for members of Basara’s village to arrive under orders to find and assassinate Mio. It is still apparent that Basara’s relationship with the village remains rocky.

Mio has her own issues because she is the daughter of the late-Demon Lord, but the encounter with Takashi the others reminds Basara of his own issues. Basara, Mio, and Maria have hostile demons to worry about, but now they have to deal with heroes that have orders to kill Mio.

There is rest for neither Basara nor Mio.

I always find the fan service between Basara and Maria to be extremely funny, which is something one would never see in Lost Girl. As much as I love and adore Bo from Lost Girl, I think Maria has her beat on so many different levels.

Watching the scene between Basara and Mio, with the honey, convinces me that the anime series is getting closer to that line that crosses over into softcore porn. I have to stress that I have perfectly no problem with that, but there is one downside: their ages.

Maria is ancient, despite taking on the appearance of a middle school girl, who shouldn’t even have firm looking breasts.

Basara and Mio are still teenagers, which feels like the story is subtly and subliminally promoting premarital sex let alone teen sex. I have to stress that I have no problem with premarital sex in general as long as all partners consent and use proper protection.

Rhetorically asking, who the f—king h—l really needs to watch live porn after watching this episode?

This episode was mildly entertaining as it was more fan service and less story development, but it does set up for the next episode though. I feel like The Testament of Sister New Devil feels like a “lighter” version of Bible Black, which is sexually explicit.
