Review: ‘The Testament of Sister New Devil’ EP 11 like a boss battle

Episode 11 of The Testament of Sister New Devil, titled “Espionage… What Lies After,” is currently streaming on Crunchyroll for paid subscribers. Free subscribers can watch the same episode six days from now on March 25th.

Zolgia proves that he is not a pushover as he manages to place Basara in a mental trance, which the latter manages to break free of. This man is a megalomaniac, who is bent on claiming power to take over the demon realm and expand his reach into the human realm. He does remind me of US President Frank Underwood from House of Cards.

I have to say that Zolgia is the equivalent of a major video game boss.

He ultimately makes the grave mistake of underestimating everybody especially Mio, which proves to be his downfall. Zolgia managed to draw out power from Mio after showing footage of Maria’s mom allegedly dying a violent death, but learns the hard way that he didn’t draw out Wilbert’s power.

This makes me think that Mio pulled a “Naruto Uzumaki.”

I was bummed that Basara stopped Mio from killing Zolgia, but I do understand the conversation about revenge is a short moment of bliss that is replaced by an eternity of despair. That means revenge only brings a small bit of satisfaction, but you feel empty inside.

This reminds me of the previous episode of Parasyte, where Shinichi and Migi get into a debate about killing Goto.

Shinichi does kill Goto, but it was a hard decision after thinking about the Parasites being mankind’s “punishment” for ruining the earth.

Zolgia is spared, but not for long as Takigawa aka Lars revealed his participation in Basara’s plan. That means Basara pulled a fast one on Zolgia, who got f—ked at the end. I laughed when Takigawa revealed that he created a dummy of Maria’s mother to further trick Zolgia, which worked.

I had an “so s—t” moment when Lars revealed that Mio’s foster parents, who Zolgia murdered, were also his foster parents.

The situation gets more f—ked up, but not surprising, when the fortress was revealed to be an illusion and everybody was trapped inside the stomach of a large demon. This made me reminisce about the .hack// RPG series, where you could end up in a “fleshy dungeon” that looked like you were entering some creature’s body.

It was an enjoyable episode to watch as the story is gaining pace. I was utterly shocked that Maria’s mother, Shella, could pass for her little sister. I am going to assume that Shella is more powerful than Maria, which is why she has to maintain a younger form to store all that power.
