Episode seven of The Rolling Girls, titled “Give Me The Stars,” is currently streaming on FUNimation for paid members. Free members can watch this same episode seven days from now on February 28th.
The titular group, destined to be like the Rest, are enjoying themselves at a recently discovered hot spring. There is already a disagreement between Nozomi and Ai, respectively, who simply wants to resolve matters in Maccha’s place and who is simply looking to get her hands on one of the special moonstones.
I can understand both sides of the argument.
Nozomi wants to make sure that disputes are resolved if the right people have those powers, which is logical because it would be a pain in the @$$ to travel back and mediate things. They do not have Maccha’s special powers, which are derived from the stone.
It is important to know that neither Maccha nor Kuniko possess their stones anymore.
Ai does not want to remain like the Rest and understands that she needs to grab one of the stones in order to become one of the Best. She is willing to let Nozomi grab the first stone, but I can understand Nozomi’s reluctance.
There is the reality that they will need to acquire power at some point when normal mediating may prove ineffective.
The beginning scene centers on the aspect of the “comfort zone.” Nozomi and the others are uncomfortable about the idea of becoming the Best because it comes with its fair share of headaches and Ai wants to become one of the Best because she is tired of being a lackey.
I enjoyed the rock ‘n roll and traditional geisha motifs of this episode, which brings the group to Kyoto.
The fight scene between the Kamagowa Rockers leader Misa Ichijo and Doji Shuten was interesting because it reminded me of the original fight between Maccha and Kuniko. This explains why Ai is looking for a stone of her own to become one of the Best.
I laughed at the fact Misa got kidnapped because the method used was original and hilarious. I thought Shuten was going to kidnap Misa by force.
At least I got to enjoy watching a battle between the Maikos led by the 19th Mamechiyo, out to rescue Misa, and Shuten’s gang. I was surprised that Shuten proved to be formidable after grabbing one of the moonstones.
“Give Me The Stars” was an interesting episode to watch and I am curious about Shuten’s plans of alleviating his “boredom.” It also makes me wonder if one of the group members like Ai or Nozomi will end up acquiring a stone.
The girls ultimately learn the lesson that not all conflicts can be resolved peacefully through teamwork as Ai points out.
