Episode 2 of The Rolling Girls, titled “The Rolling Girls Center of the World,” is now streaming on FUNimation to all paid subscription members. If you are a free member, you can watch “The Rolling Girls Center of the World” about six days from now.
The last episode, which is the premiere episode, ended with the members of the Propellers in danger and Masami Utoku rushing in to save them, but is unable to change into her Maccha Green outfit.
“The Rolling Girls Center of the World” starts off with Masami having no choice but to fight the rival Best in the theme park. Masami is revealed as Maccha Green, which creates an awkwardly funny situation because Nozomi is the last to find out because everybody else knew about the secret, surprising even Masami herself.
It turned into an embarrassing situation for Masami when people finally admitted that they knew she was Maccha Green.
The pre-fight is interrupted by the whole roller coaster threatening to collapse, which makes me glad that I have never ridden on one before. I vow never to ever fathom riding on a roller coaster after watching that scene.
I’ll probably say “f—k off” to anybody that tries to force me to go on a roller coaster because of this scene.
Luckily Masami, disguised as Maccha Green, arrives on the scene and stops the roller coaster car.
I enjoyed the fighting between Masami and Kuniko, but had an “oh holy s—t” moment when the latter tries to unmask the former. There is an unwritten rule about not eating before training or fighting, which the two of them ate bowls or ramen in the previous episode.
In layman speak, Masami couldn’t keep the food in her stomach and puked all over Kuniko. That caught Kuniko by surprise and Masami took advantage of the situation to deliver the finishing blow, winning the fight.
Unfortunately Masami’s costume was so damaged that the mask came off.
It got emotional and awkwardly funny when the members of the Rest chastised Masami for assuming that any of them would get in the way of a fight between the Bests. They affirm that doing so would be stupid and suicidal.
The next scene got awkwardly funny and random when Ai, from the other gang, ran up with the intention of punching out Nozomi only to knock out Crocodile by accident.
Shigyo recovers and it becomes round two between herself and Masami as they relive a past grudge against each other.
I was looking forward to round two, but enjoyed the surprising and accidental action by Yukari, who accidentally hit Shigyo in the head with a random object meant for Masami. It turned out that Shigyo is a tragic villain, who started out being a hero.
The end starts the adventure of Nozomi, Yukina, Ai, and Misono.
Together, they ride in place of Masami, who has to spend two months in the hospital. The four of them have to use diplomacy over force to solve problems in Masami’s place.
I enjoyed the episode, which perfectly sets up the main story of The Rolling Girls. They ultimately travel throughout Japan to collect the special heart-shaped moonstones.
