They began their set with “Everlong,” which garnered a roaring response from the Citi Field crowd. They continued with “Monkey Wrench” and “Learn to Fly,” the latter of which was a trip down memory lane to this journalist’s junior high school days.
The stage presence that Dave Grohl had was tremendous, and giving the fact that he recently broke his leg last month in Sweden, he was a true professional and class act. Equally fun and rocking were “Something From Nothing” and “The Pretender,” as well as “Walk.”
Foo Fighters cover the Van Halen classic “I’m the One” as they introduced their fellow band-mates, and equally superb was their rendition of Queen’s “Another One Bites the Dust.”
While their electric set was noteworthy, their acoustic set showcased their raw and natural talent. It included charming version of “My Hero” and “Times Like These.” They tipped their hats to Queen and David Bowie by performing “Under Pressure” in their honor, as well as AC/DC’s “Let There Be Rock,” and made both songs their own. They closed their lengthy set with Tom Petty’s “Breakdown” and “Best of You.” For their encore, they performed “Stay With Me,” featuring Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Chad Smith from Red Hot Chili Peppers on drums.
The Verdict
Overall, Foo Fighters are still able to rock and they delivered a killer concert at Citi Field in New York, proving that they are iconic artists in their field. Their energy was infectious, and they are worth seeing live. Their show garnered 4.5 out of 5 stars.
