Review: The Chainsmokers flop on debut album ‘Memories…Do Not Open’ (Includes first-hand account)

It opens with the monotone and forgettable “The One,” and it is followed by such lackluster and explicit tracks as “Break Up Every Night” and “Bloodstream.” “My Type” is a sloppy performance and “It Won’t Kill Ya” is simply horrid.

“Don’t Say” featuring lead vocals from Emily Warren is mediocre at best, and in all honesty, the only two highlight tracks on the project are the two radio singles that they have out right now, “Something Just Like This,” where they collaborate with Coldplay, and the infectious “Paris.”

The CD closes with the mid-tempo yet boring “Young,” and “Last Day Alive,” their collaboration with country duo Florida Georgia Line.

The Verdict

Overall, The Chainsmokers‘ highly-anticipated debut studio album, Memories…Do Not Open, is a major disappointment. They had so much hype and potential, but the actual album went nowhere. This journalist’s suggestion would be to download a few good tracks (“Something Just Like This” and “Paris”) on iTunes, if the fans and listeners have not already done so, and skip the rest. This CD garners a D rating.
