“The Abigail Mysteries” is a original new film on Great American Family, which premiered on July 30.
The movie was directed by Brittany Goodwin from a screenplay by Ansley Gordon, who stars in the leading role as Abigail while Bret Green portrays Matt MacAdams.
The synopsis is: Abigail is a true-crime podcaster experiencing a crisis of faith. When her eccentric neighbor suddenly dies, a real-life investigation lands in her lap and she is the only one who suspects foul play.
Abigail is is struggling to come to terms with the loss of her baby and her divorce.
The audience will question as to whether a slew of scripture-based clues will guide her back to her faith and help her solve the mystery.
Ansley Gordon and Bret Green have solid chemistry together as the bubbly Abigail and suave Matt respectively, and their rapport allows for more resonance.
It is filled with twists and turns, and it will make viewers ask “whodunnit?” so they will have to be on their toes to look for hidden clues.
The only minor downside is that some of the supporting characters could have been developed a bit more. Regardless, it is worth checking out due to its interesting storyline and unconventional plot.
Hopefully, this is a harbinger that there will be future sequels in this new Great American Family mystery (and it will become its own series should the audience gravitate towards it).
The Verdict
Overall, “The Abigail Mysteries” is an engaging and feel-good mystery for the whole family. It is recommended for anybody that is interested in seeing a faith-based movie with a case that needs solving. It garners four out of five stars.
