Disco Unlimited is a premier disco tribute act that was able to pack up the venue. Their nostalgic set included such disco hits as “Enough is Enough (No More Tears),” “Last Dance,” as well as The Weather Girls’ “It’s Raining Men.”
The 90’s Band took the stage a little after 11 p.m. and they opened with Third Eye Blind’s “Semi-Charged Life.” This marked their second Mulcahy’s show with new lead front-woman Nicoletta. They immediately broke into the fan-favorite “My Own Worst Enemy,” originally by Lit, and the crowd was singing the lyrics “please tell my why” back to them. Nicoletta was able to tackle Britney Spears successfully with her version of “Baby One More Time,” and she showed some attitude on Alanis’ “You Oughta Know.”
It was great to hear Phil sing Blink-182’s “Dammit,” which he nails every time. It is safe to say that Blink-182’s music was meant to be sung by The 90’s Band front-man Phil Smith (the same holds true for “All the Small Things” and “What’s My Age Again?”). He showed his mellow voice on a stunning rendition of Oasis’ “Wonderwall.”
Overall, The 90’s Band delivered once again at Mulcahy’s, and Nicoletta deserves a round of applause for an excellent performance. Her voice and stage presence is reminiscent of a young Avril Lavigne, which ought to be taken as a major compliment. Bobby on bass and Luke on drums put on a solid show as well.
