This event had a patriotic theme to it, in honor of Labor Day Weekend. The 90’s Band shared the stage with boy band cover group Larger Than Life, which was equally wonderful.
The 90’s Band is made up of Phil and Christina on co-lead vocals, as well as Bobby on bass, and Luke on drums. Their set included such impressive covers as No Doubt’s “Just a Girl,” which Christina knocked out of the park, as well as Britney Spears’ “Baby One More Time.” They showed their sassy side on the Spice Girls’ “Wannabe,” while Phil belted out Blink-182’s infectious “What’s My Age Again?”
Phil subsequently had the Mulcahy’s crowd singing “All The Small Things” for him, as yellow lights dimmed from the stage, which were run by Ricky Cappiello. The best part was when they literally “turned the lights off” when that lyric was sung in the classic Blink-182 tune.
“Where are my men at?” Christina asked, as she went on to sing the cheery “Man! I Feel Like a Woman” by Shania Twain. “How are you guys doing?” Phil asked, and they went on to hand out several back-to-school items, such as The 90’s Band stickers for their fans’ binders.
Phil went on to sing a killer version of the Goo Goo Dolls’ “Slide,” as well as Third Eye Blind’s “Semi Charmed Life.” “Has it hit you that it’s not 2016?” Christina said, and took the Mulcahy’s crowd back to 1996 with “Head over Feet” by Alanis Morissette. Phil picked up the pace with Gin Blossoms’ “Hey Jealousy,” as Christina played the tambourine.
After throwing a black Nirvana T-shirt in the audience, they paid tribute to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame band, by singing “Smells Like Teen Spirit.” Equally fun were their renditions of “My Own Worst Enemy” and Alanis’ spitfire “You Oughta Know.”
The Verdict
Overall, The 90’s Band were very impressive for their “Labor Day Blow Out” show at Mulcahy’s. Their level of talent as a band is top-notch, and they always deliver in their live performances. Their lengthy set garnered an A rating.
