DJ Mike Savage provided the DJ entertainment for the night. They opened their set with Third Eye Blind’s “Semi-Charmed Life,” where Phil and Gina harmonized well with each other. Gina went on to nail Alanis Morissette’s “You Oughta Know.” “Well, are you guys ready to get crazy?” she asked the Mulcahy’s audience, and the answer was a resounding “yes.” They continued with Lit’s “My Own Worst Enemy,” which was a party anthem.
Gina picked up the pace with the upbeat “Just a Girl” by No Doubt, as yellow and purple lights dimmed from the stage. Phil brought the audience back to 1999 with Smash Mouth’s “All Star.” Gina continued by paying homage to Nirvana with the spitfire yet haunting “Smells Like Teen Spirit,” as the crowd was clapping along. “Yeah, Mulcahy’s,” she said, praising the fans. “We love Mulcahy’s and we love you guys.”
Phil tipped his hat to Weezer with “Buddy Holly” and “Say It Ain’t So,” which showcased his smooth and mellow vocals, as blue lights shined from the stage. Green Day’s “Basket Case” was a great deal of fun as well.
The 90’s Band’s performance was followed by a set by boyband cover group Larger Than Life, and after that, The 90’s Band returned for an additional 90’s set.
Children’s book author of Simon the Snail, Shari Bitterman, who was present at the concert, remarked, “The 90’s was a great time for music, and The 90’s Band brought it back in style. The band captures each song and reawakens it with a sound that is crisp and dynamic.” Bitterman went on to compliment the band as a whole for their talent, especially Gina for her “smooth, yet edgy voice,” which she compared to such greats as “Pink and Alanis Morissette.”
The Verdict
Overall, The 90’s Band rocked Mulcahy’s Pub and Concert Hall like they normally do. Phil and Gina charmed on co-lead vocals, and Bobby rocked the bass, and Luke played the drums. A good time was had by all at Mulcahy’s. Their live show earned five out of five stars.
