Global pop music superstar Taylor Swift released her latest studio album “The Tortured Poets Department” on Friday, April 19.

It opens with the hypnotic lead single “Fortnight,” where she collaborates with Post Malone, and it is followed by the melodically-stunning title track “The Tortured Poets Department” and the stirring “My Boy Only Breaks His Favorite Toys.”

“Down Bad” has a “Willow” vibe to it, and she is not afraid to be sincere and vulnerable in “So Long, London.” She picks up the pace with the pensive “But Daddy I Love Him.” It is followed by the atmospheric “Fresh Out the Slammer.”

Swift joins forces with Florence Welch of Florence + the Machine on the tune “Florida!!!”, which is a powerhouse musical experience.

Equally noteworthy is the lilting “Guilty as Sin?” while the listener will be drenched in a wide spectrum of raw emotions on “Who’s Afraid of Little Old Me?” Swift doesn’t hold anything back on the spitfire “I Can Do It With a Broken Heart.”

After the haunting “The Smallest Man Who Ever Lived,” it closes with the crisp “The Alchemy” and “Clara Bow,” where she leaves her listeners wanting to hear more.

Fortunately, for the fans, there was more! Swift revealed earlier in the morning that “The Tortured Poets Department” is indeed a double album, consisting of a total of 31 songs.

The Verdict

Overall, Taylor Swift’s “The Tortured Poets Department” is captivating and a cohesive musical effort from start to finish. She allows her honey-rich, crystalline vocals to shine. In many ways, it is a musical oasis, a fever dream, and sheer bliss all around.

Every song on this collection has its own identity, and Swift’s vulnerability is the listener’s reward.

The lyrics are literally pure poetry. Swift’s latest studio offering “The Tortured Poets Department” should have Grammy written all over it, and it deserves to win “Album of the Year” at next year’s Grammy ceremony.

This is one of the best pop records out there since Beyonce released her “Lemonade” album back in 2016.

“The Tortured Poets Department” is going for the gold, and it garners an A rating.
