On November 22, global music star Stromae headlined Madison Square Garden in the heart of New York City. This marked his second consecutive sold-out show at the historic venue.
South African rapper and musician Sho Madjozi was able to warm up the stage for him thanks to her entertaining 30-minute opening set.
Stromae’s presence was met with a raucous response. He kicked off his show with “Invaincu” and he immediately broke into the captivating “Fils de joie” and “Tous Les Memes.”
“Mon amour” was certainly the fan-favorite number in the first half of his show, and equally remarkable were “La solassitude” and “Quand C’est ?”
Other noteworthy tunes included “Bonne journée,” “Mauvaise journée,” “Pas vraiment” and “Formidable.” Stromae deserves to be commended for his charm and charisma. His set was so versatile and resonant that it made it extremely difficult to select a favorite song.
After “L’enfer,” he closed with “C’est que du bonheur,” which was indeed joyous, and “Santé,” which was well-received by all.
Stromae possessed the expressiveness of Marc Anthony (thanks to his rich, velvet vocals) and the dynamic stage presence of the late Prince, and that should be taken as a compliment.
For his encore, he returned with “Alors on Danse” and a distinct a cappella version of “Mon amour,” where he left his fans yearning for more.
Since 2015, Stromae has been busy. He launched five clothing collections and collaborated on videos for Yael Naïm (Coward), Dua Lipa (IDGAF), and Billie Eilish (Hostage) under the Mosaert label.
He created the label in 2009, together with Luc Van Haver and stylist Coralie Barbier for artistic creation. It operates in the fields of fashion, audiovisual media and, of course, music. When his Brussels studio was completed in 2018, his life changed pace to that of a craftsman returning to his workshop for a third studio album, Multitude.
