The local Stevie Nicks tribute act Gypsy served as their opening act, where they were able to warm up the stage for Yellow Brick Road. Fronted by Janet Spallone Soluri on lead vocals, Gypsy’s set included Stevie Nicks’ classic collaborations with Fleetwood Mac (“Don’t Stop” and “Go Your Own Way”), as well as her smash solo hit, the feisty “Edge of Seventeen.”
When Yellow Brick Road took the stage, they kicked off their high-octane set with a lengthy instrumental, and as soon as Gerald Brann opened his mouth, he instantly lured his fans and listeners into the world of Elton John’s music. The control he had over his voice was impeccable and he stayed true to the honesty and authenticity of Elton John’s actual recordings, without overdoing them.
They rocked on such classics as “Rocket Man,” “Tiny Dancer” and “Bennie and the Jets,” as well as their namesake ballad “Goodbye Yellow Brick Road,” among many others.
The Elton John national tribute act Yellow Brick Road had the Long Island crowd with them every step of the way, and their concert was well-received from start to finish.
The Verdict
Overall, Yellow Brick Road was able to wow the audiences at Mulcahy’s at their inaugural performance at this venue. Front-man Gerald Brann was transformative as the “Rocket Man” on piano and on lead vocals. This Elton John tribute band is worth seeing live whenever they are in town. Their live set garnered an A rating.
