Grand either solely wrote or co-wrote all the tracks on the new CD. It opens with the uplifting “Say You Love Me,” which has an infectious, sing-along chorus to it. It is followed by yet another upbeat tune “Red, White and Blue” and the stellar “We Are The Night,” which encompasses elements of electronic music.
“All-American Boy” is the breakthrough single that introduced Grand to the world, and rightfully so. This piano-driven ballad about unrequited love is crisp and haunting.
“Soakin’ Wet” is a great deal of fun, that would make a solid choice for a future radio single. Grand changes the pace of the album with the mid-tempo, yet dynamic “Lovin’ Again.” Equally fun is the party tune “Whiskey Crime.”
The inclusion of his sophomore single “Stay” on this project is an added bonus. Grand shows his rocking side on “Next to Me,” while “Time” is a gorgeous ballad that Grand absolutely nails. “Better Off” is haunting and it picks up the pace of the CD
“Run” is nonchalant and fun, with a refreshing pop-rock vibe. Grand saves the best vocal for last, the bittersweet piano-driven ballad “Back to California,” which tugs at the heartstrings.
The Verdict
Overall, Steve Grand delights on his new studio album All American Boy. There is a lot of variety on the collection, and one can hear Grand’s heart on every song. It may have taken a while to record, but it was well worth the wait, since excellence takes time, and Grand has achieved that on this musical project. His CD earns an A rating.
