Review: ‘Spider-Man & X-Men #6’ is comically ‘Sinister’

Marvel’s Spider-Man & The X-Men #6 was released by Marvel Comics on April 29th and likely concludes the series according to the end message. I can assume that this is one of the series that Marvel Comics is concluding in preparation for Secret Wars, where the mainstream universe is going to undergo a reset. It makes me think of Deadpool #45, which showcased the death of the titular Deadpool.

I found that issue funny because Deadpool and everyone else died of the incursion between the Mainstream Marvel 616-Universe and the Ultimate Marvel 1610-Universe, where Deadpool thought the concept was BS made up by the Avengers. It has to be known that Marvel Comics is ending a number of series in preparations for the upcoming Secret Wars ending.

If you haven’t read the series, you should know that this does take place in the 616-Universe.

Storm has become the headmaster of the Jean Grey School, which was founded by the late-James “Logan” Howlett aka Wolverine. I found the idea of Spider-Man helping teach the next generation of X-Men to be funny.

The notion hasn’t turned out the way Storm or Beast have expected, which ended up in comical results.

I find it funny when Spider-Man is usually late or absent for class, but for factors out of his control due to constantly being kidnapped on a regular basis. There is no rest for Spider-Man because he has his day job, being an active member of three teams, patrolling the streets of Manhattan, and grooming Cindy Moon aka Silk into a superheroine.

This issue centers on yet another rescue of Spider-Man, who is held captive by Mr. Sinister. I had a WTF look on my face because this is the first time that Mr. Sinister has set his eyes on someone outside the X-Men franchise.

What did I think of Spider-Man & The X-Men #6?

I laughed at the running gag of Spider-Man being kidnapped on a regular basis, which is a good way to introduce the younger X-Men to villains within and outside the franchise. It is also a good way to introduce Spider-Man to notable X-Men villains.

Even though the danger is serious, Spider-Man & The X-Men has incredibly funny adventures.

I’m still shocked that Mr. Sinister had set his sights on Spider-Man. It feels like the Christian interpretation of Hell has frozen over. I have to stress that Mr. Sinister has never really targeted people like Captain America, Daredevil, Blade, Mr. Fantastic, She-Hulk, Songbird, Captain Marvel, Ms. Marvel, and others.

Ernst and No-Girl are at the center of the story as the former aligned with Mr. Sinister in order to provide the latter with an actual body. I felt bad for Ernst because she cares so much for her best friend, which Mr. Sinister has to be a total @$$hole and exploit.

It becomes “corrupt a wish” as Mr. Sinister grants Ernst’s request, but Martha’s brain is placed inside a cloned body of Storm. If that wasn’t f—ked up enough, the body is under Mr. Sinister’s control. That forces Martha to use Storm’s power and attack people against her will.

Hellion leads the class on yet another rescue mission, which took them to an abandoned mall. They reach their destination to be greeted by clones of Wolverine, Firestar, Iceman, and Beast. It’s one of your typical battles, but Ernst turns the tide of battle by freeing No-Girl’s brain from Storm’s clone body.

Sometime passes and Spider-Man wakes up in the infirmary, where Storm lightens up in order to have a serious conversation with him. They have a serious talk as Spider-Man pleads Ernst’s case, which is a tough sell because Beast and Firestar want to kick her out.

Hellion, Glob, Eye-Boy, Rockslide, and Shark-Girl successfully plead Ernst’s case, which results in her receiving a five-month detention sentence. There is a sense of humor when Beast expresses displeasure at the fact that they stole his car, which was destroyed, to find Spider-Man.

The issue ends when Spider-Man leads the group on a patrol, which Hellon and Shark-Girl slacked off in order to make out in private.

I’d have to give Spider-Man & The X-Men #6 a grade of A+.
