“Southern Gospel,” starring Max Ehrich, is a compelling film on faith. It was released on UPtv on April 9, which coincided with Easter Sunday.
The synopsis is: a rock star, Samuel Allen (Max Ehrich), is given a second chance to become a preacher, but his desire to share a message of forgiveness is tested at every turn.
The screenplay by Jeffrey A. Smith by resonant and captivating. It allows for character development to unveil on an organic manner.
Ehrich is transformative in this role as Samuel (where he is equal in excellence to Austin Butler in “Elvis”), and he has great chemistry with Katelyn Nacon, who plays Julie in a refreshing manner. Ehrich’s acting runs the gamut, and we see many deep layers to his complex character.
Without giving too much away, there is a telephone scene between Samuel and Barry (J. Alphonse Nicholson) that will certainly break the viewers’ hearts, before slowly trying to piece it back up together.
Everybody in the “Southern Gospel” cast brings something unique to the table. Kudos to Jeffrey A. Smith for his noteworthy direction as well.
Similar to the movie “Jesus Revolution” starring Kelsey Grammer, this new film is quite uplifting and it does not get too preachy.
The music by Tim Williams, and the songs by Jeffrey A. Smith help add to its appeal and overall authenticity.

Overall, “Southern Gospel” is a heartwarming movie that is recommended for the entire family. It will put viewers into a time warp. Grab some popcorn and allow Max Ehrich and the cast to lure you in this inspirational adventure of faith and discovery.
“Southern Gospel” is the quintessential movie to see this Easter Holiday Weekend, and it garners 4.5 out of 5 stars.
