In the “General Hospital” episode that aired on November 12, Sonny (Maurice Benard) and Spencer (Nicholas Alexander Chavez) shared some moving “tough love” scenes in the ABC daytime drama. Digital Journal has the recap.
Sonny hears Spencer out at Kelly’s, and he respected his decision not to take the easy way out. Sonny subsequently told him that he is proud of him, but at the same time, tells him the things he needs to fix and adjust to get his life back in order. He gives Spencer a well-needed reality check.
Spencer acknowledged that he made a mistake and that he is paying for it now. Sonny reminds him that Spencer broke his trust so it will take him a while to trust him again.
“Stop looking for shortcuts,” Sonny tells Spencer. “This isn’t about shortcuts, it’s about working hard. You need to get used to that.”
Sonny reminds him that there is always more than one option in life. He wants Spencer to apologize to Ava (Maura West) sincerely and to own up to his mistakes.
“Your behavior has hurt a lot of people, including my daughter,” Sonny said. “You’re not a kid anymore, you get it. You can’t just excuse everything away. You know better than that.”
Overall, these scenes involved great acting from Maurice Benard and Nicholas Alexander Chavez, who has been killing the role of Spencer ever since he stepped into his shoes, and has totally made it his own. Well done, once again.
In fact, Maurice Benard is a treat in every scene that he graces, and with three Daytime Emmy wins under his belt for “Outstanding Lead Actor,” he proves that he is one of the best-loved actors that contemporary daytime television has to offer.
