On August 25, Latin pop singer-songwriter Sebastián Yatra performed a headlining “Sounds of the Open”‘ show at the US Open.

A Grammy-nominated artist, Yatra kicked off his set with the mid-tempo “Pareja Del Año,” and the tennis stadium erupted in cheers and applause.

It was followed by the soulful “Sutra” and “Traicionera,” which has a neat drop to it. Equally noteworthy were “Por Perro” and “Ya No Tiene Novio,” where he was able to get people to dance in the audience.

His medley of ballads featured such tunes as “Cristina,” ‘Un Año,” “Vuelve,” as well as “Devuélveme el Corazón,” where he showcased his velvet voice, which was smooth as silk.

It was followed by “Ojos Marrones” and “Por Fin Te Encontré,” where he had the crowd with him every step of the way. He continued with the sultry “Una Noche Sin Pensar” and the flirty “Chica Ideal,” which was a great deal of fun.

After “No Hay Nadie Más,” he closed with his global smash hit “VAGABUNDO” and “Tacones Rojos,” where he left listeners and tennis fans wanting to hear more.

While the concert was slightly short in duration, Yatra was able to make up for it with high-quality tunes that resonated with the New York fans.

Also, while it rained earlier in the day, the weather cooperated for the evening. Despite the language barrier (for those that didn’t speak Spanish), it didn’t matter, because Yatra was able to form a strong connection with his audience via his rich, rumbling voice.

“The US Open had good music, good friends, and good vibes,” Herman Canosa said, fan and attendee.

The Verdict

Overall, Sebastián Yatra was able to put on a high-adrenaline and upbeat Latin pop concert at the US Open, which was well-received by the crowd. In several instances, it felt like Sebastián Yatra was the main attraction and draw, and the tennis playing was secondary.

It is highly recommended that one sees Yatra live when he comes to town. His live musical set at the US Open garnered two thumbs up.
