On March 7, this journalist was afforded the privilege to partake in an advance media screening of “Scream VI,” which was held at Regal Union Square in New York City.

The movie will officially open nationwide on Friday, March 10, 2023, and it will be released via Paramount Pictures and Spyglass Media.

In “Scream VI,” Melissa Barrera, Jasmin Savoy Brown, Mason Gooding, Jenna Ortega, Hayden Panettiere, and Courteney Cox return to their roles in the franchise alongside Jack Champion, Henry Czerny, Liana Liberato, Dermot Mulroney, Devyn Nekoda, Tony Revolori, Josh Segarra, and Samara Weaving.

The synopsis is: Following the latest Ghostface killings, the four survivors, “Core Four,” leave Woodsboro behind and start a new chapter.

It a nostalgic yet creepy addition to the “Scream” slasher film franchise, and the fact that it is set in the Big Apple adds to its appeal. It will keep the fans at the edge of their seats thanks to its intense mystery and “whodunnit? “component, and at the same time, the screenplay is James Vanderbilt and Guy Busick witty and clever.

The writers have developed the majority of their characters well (even the new ones that they introduced in this installment). They are able to create an entertaining slasher microcosm of violence, trauma, thrills and the gore.

It is shot expertly by directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, the acting performances by the cast are memorable, and the suspense is unnerving.

While its Ghostface may be one of the weakest ones yet, the movie makes for it in other areas such as its striking cinematography and vibrant special effects. It still manages to stay fresh with its unique storytelling approach and unconventional plot.

Melissa Barrera steals every scene she is in as Sam, while Jenna Ortega is just as noteworthy as Tara Carpenter, and both actresses have great chemistry together.

“Scream VI” will take its audience on an exhilarating and emotional roller coaster of a ride. It is certainly a film that people would want to see on the big screen in theaters again. Longtime fans of the franchise will be pleased and fulfilled, and this a movie that will gain many new fans and followers. “Scream VI” garners a B+ rating.
