“Hard Goodbye” is a track from his breakthrough full-length studio album, Streets, which will be out early next year. James co-wrote the tune with Juno-nominee Amanda Rheaume, and it was produced by multi-Canadian Country Music Association (CCMA) award winner Jason Barry. James’ vocals are raspy, yet crisp and refreshing. It is melodically-stunning with neat traditional country instrumentation, including fiddle. Towards the end of the tune, the listener will be compelled to clap along to its infectious beat, that is reminiscent of The Lumineers’ “Ho Hey.”
“Slow down, Why you look so innocent when you have these secrets you’re holding back from me,” James sings, in its opening verse.
