Review: Scott Stapp honors Chris Cornell, to perform at Pink Tie event (Includes first-hand account)

“I just want to take a moment to keep him in our thoughts and our prayers,” Stapp said, referring to Chris Cornell. “I’m going to sing a little bit of a song that he wrote, and I want you guys to sing it with me if you know it.”

Stapp serenaded his fans to the chorus of the Soundgarden classic “Black Hole Sun,” and immediately broke into the Creed smash hit “One Last Breath,” which was an appropriate track for this moving tribute. “All of you sing it now,” Stapp said, and the crowd fulfilled his request. “Thank you,” he said, graciously, following the warm reception.

On Monday, May 22, Scott Stapp will be performing at the fifth annual Pink Tie event at the Crest Hollow Country Club in Woodbury, New York, where all of the proceeds will benefit the Don Monti Memorial Research Foundation.

The Verdict

Overall, Scott Stapp’s version of Soundgarden’s “Black Hole Sun” was simultaneously haunting and heartfelt. Stapp’s admiration and respect for the late rock singer-songwriter Chris Cornell was evident. His brave rendition garnered an A rating.
