Emmy-winning actor Scott Clifton opened up about mental health, career, and family in Maurice Benard’s MB “State of Mind” podcast.

Scott Clifton plays the role of Liam Spencer on the CBS daytime drama “The Bold and The Beautiful,” while Maurice Benard portrays Port Charles patriarch Sonny Corinthos on the ABC soap opera “General Hospital.”

This informed conversation was quite moving, and it allowed viewers to get to know both Emmy winners on a more up-close, personal, and intimate level. Clifton is not afraid to be raw and vulnerable.

It is great to hear them talk about family, offspring, the craft of acting, their Emmy wins (both of which have three Emmy trophies each), their parents, and Clifton opens up about his “father figures” at work, which include Don Diamont on “The Bold and The Beautiful,” and Maurice Benard back when he was on “General Hospital,” where Clifton formerly played the role of Dylan Quartermaine.

Ironically enough, Don Diamont (who plays Bill Spencer on “The Bold and The Beautiful”) is a real-life father to seven kids, so it is only natural that he would have paternal feelings towards Clifton.

Their chat comes across liberating and cathartic. It certainly seems like a chat of two friends having a conversation that they should have had a long time ago, but at the same time, Benard looks upon Clifton as a proud “father figure” in the soap opera world, for all the triumphs, successes, and obstacles that he overcame in his life.

They both fondly remember the late soap star Kristoff St. John of “The Young and The Restless,” who was gone too soon.

Many viewers are bound to find this conversation warm and relatable, and Maurice Benard deserves to be commended for bringing top-notch, high-quality individuals and celebrities each week to feature on his MB “State of Mind” podcast on mental health, especially at a time when mental health is of the utmost importance.
