10 String Symphony served as her opening act, and they were able to warm up the stage for Jarosz.
The Texas native opened her set with “Annabelle Lee,” where he accompanied herself on banjo. She was joined by Anthony Da Costa on backing vocals and guitars, as well as Jeff Picker on double bass. It was followed by the haunting “Green Lights,” which she sang as if it were a soothing lullaby, as she played the acoustic guitar. “Thank you all so much for coming. How are you doing tonight?” she asked, prior to thanking her fans for spending St. Patty’s day at her show.
Jarosz immediately broke into “Mile to the Moon” and the ethereal “Build Me Up From Bones,” where her delicate vocals were simply too good to be mortal. The mid-tempo “Run Away” had a liberating vibe to it. She shared that she wrote “Comin’ Undone” with her friend Parker Millsap and delivered a bluesy rendition of the tune. Equally gorgeous were her renditions of “Ring Them Bells” and “Back Of My Mind.” Anthony Da Costa also did his own song “Neighbors” with Jarosz on harmonies and mandolin, which was an added bonus.
Two other incredible songs included her Grammy-winning yet haunting “House of Mercy” and “1000 Things.” She expressed her gratitude to the Landmark on Port Washington for making her and her band feel right at home, and praised her opening act 10 String Symphony for being “so amazing.” “We love those guys,” she said.
They closed with “Over the Edge,” which garnered them a standing ovation from the Port Washington crowd. For her encore, Jarosz sang a solo version of her stellar tune “Jacqueline” on electric guitar, and she tipped her hat to Nanci Griffith with an angelic rendition of “I Wish It Would Rain,” where she was able to put a smile on every audience member’s face.
The Verdict
Overall, Sarah Jarosz and her band were fantastic at the Landmark on Main Street in Port Washington in New York. Her vocals were heavenly, sultry and crisp. Simply put, Jarosz is the next Alison Krauss in the music industry. Her live show garnered five out of five stars.
