Review: Ruth B marvelous at Radio City Music Hall in New York (Includes first-hand account)

Ruth B shared the stage with singer-songwriter Nathan Sykes, as they opened for headliner Alessia Cara.

“Thank you guys so much,” Ruth B said, prior to noting her excitement of being at Radio City. She introduced herself as a singer-songwriter from Edmonton, Alberta.

She opened her set with the first song that she wrote, which is about “being yourself,” which featured her crisp and haunting voice. It was followed by “Golden,” where the stage was graced in red lights. Ruth B had the audience clapping along to the next song, while she was jumping along, showcasing her soothing vocals.

The Canadian musician continued with a recent song she wrote entitled “In My Dreams,” which sounds like another major hit due to its rawness. She began the song solo, and her three-piece band joined in towards the end.

She shared that she wrote her follow-up tune about a time that she was very confused, and noted that “Lost Boy” came from an idea about Peter Pan. That was the song that everybody wanted to hear, and she went on to deliver a spell-binding live rendition of her smash hit.

“Thank you for this opportunity,” she said, effusively, and she praised her band for being “incredible.” It has been an “absolute dream of hers” to play at the iconic Radio City Music Hall, and she thanked Alessia Cara for allowing her to open for her. She closed her set with the mid-tempo yet catchy “Superficial Love.”

The Verdict

Overall, Ruth B put on a pleasant debut performance at Radio City Music Hall. Her vocals were expressive and atmospheric, and she displayed her sincere storytelling ability throughout her set. Her live show garnered five out of five stars.
