This EP was produced by long-time collaborator and Grammy winner M-Phazes. It opens with the crisp ballad “Don’t Cry,” which features his impressive falsetto, and it is followed by the nonchalant “Real Thing,” while “Painkiller” is bluesy and soulful. The piano-driven “Hard Sometimes” is expressive and filled with raw emotions.
After the smooth “Face to Face,” the EP closes with the infectious “Unsaid,” featuring his rich, resonant voice, and with the stunning title cut, the bluesy “Free Time.”
On October 28, Ruel will be performing two back-to-back shows at the Bowery Ballroom in New York City.

Overall, Ruel proves that he is a true force to be reckoned with in the contemporary music scene. His latest EP Free Time is one of the year’s best releases in pop music. Ruel allows the music to speak for itself. It is warm and heartfelt, and it garners an A rating. Well done Ruel.
