Review: Rodg stunning on new electronic album ‘High on Life’ (Includes first-hand account)

The album opens on an ambient note with “Parachute,” and it is followed by the upbeat and progressive “Dream.” “Alibi” is charming collaboration featuring the lilting vocals of Louise Rademaker. The title track “High On Life” is a true dance-floor anthem, while “Flaked” is more mid-tempo with hypnotic hooks. “Islands” has a laid-back vibe to it, and “Heatwave” is pure ear candy.

Rodg shows some attitude on “Artefact” and his calming single Wired” is an electronic masterpiece. It is no wonder that it was featured on “A State of Trance 777.” Dezi Belle sings lead on “A Syllable,” and he picks up the pace with the upbeat “Vice Point,” which is destined to become a song that his fans will work out to in the gym.

In “Fire,” he collaborates with vocalist Patrick Baker, and “Indulge Me” is sonically impressive. It closes with such tracks as “Leave A Light On” and “Apollo.”

Most impressive about Rodg is that he received a great deal of DJ support from Armin van Buuren himself.

The Verdict

Overall, Rodg has released a well-crafted artist album with High on Life. There is a lot of variety on this collection. Rodg has been electronic music’s best-kept secret, and now the secret is finally out. It garners an A rating.
