Singer-songwriter and actress Rita Wilson released her new pop single “Sound of a Woman” on Friday, February 6th.
Wilson co-penned the song with Grammy winner Amy Wadge, who has worked with such Grammy award-winning music stars as Ed Sheeran, Kacey Musgraves, and Alicia Keys.
Wilson is expressive and she is not afraid to be raw and vulnerable. The lyrics are somewhat poetic and not contrived.
Wilson allows her crystalline, harking voice to shine on this moving ballad. It opens with a swell of strings and it builds up into a controlled and cathartic tune. Vocally, in various instances, the listener can slightly recall Martina McBride, and that ought to be taken as a compliment.
The gospel harmonies are soothing and resonant; moreover, they help elevate the song and its theme to a higher, atmospheric level.
The music video for “Sound of a Woman” was directed by Steven Sebring, who worked with Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Patti Smith.
The song is the title track of her forthcoming sixth studio album, which will be released on May 1st, 2026. This music effort was co-produced by Wilson and nine-time Grammy-winning producer Dave Cobb.
