Christmas Time opens with the mid-tempo, yet infectious “Dreaming Of Christmas,” featuring impressive fiddle instrumentation. It is followed by the gorgeous hymn “Angels We Have Heard On High,” as well as “Twelve Days of Christmas,” which features such special musical guests as Charlie Daniels, The Oak Ridge Boys, Dolly Parton and Willie Nelson, among others.
The title track is a beautiful holiday ballad, while “Christmas Time at Home” is more uptempo. “Milk and Cookies” is a sassy and fun tune. The haunting “God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen” is yet another polished ballad, which features such instruments as high strung guitar, percussion, upright bass and fiddle.
Vincent shows her fans how to have a good time with the ever-popular “Jingle Bells,” and her version of “Away in a Manger” is as compelling as the one covered by such songstresses as Patty Loveless and Martina McBride. Vincent’s rendition of “Silent Night” is ethereal, featuring soaring harmonies from Charli Robertson and Kelsi Robertson Harrigill; moreover, it includes a neat string arrangement.
It closes with “O Little Town of Bethlehem” and a lengthy medley that includes such Christmas classics as “What Child Is This?” and “We Three Kings,” “O Come All Ye Faithful,” “The First Noel,” among others.
The Verdict
Overall, Rhonda Vincent impresses with her newest Christmas album, Christmas Time. Her voice is still captivating and the songs are warm and nostalgic. It garners an A rating.
