Review: Reggae band Magic! gives a ‘Paramount’ performance on Long Island (Includes first-hand account)

They took the pop music industry by storm this year thanks to the success of their breakthrough single, “Rude,” which reached No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 charts, and stayed there for six consecutive weeks. Magic! is made up of Nasri on lead vocals, Mark on guitar, Ben on bass and Alex on drums.

Magic! was joined by special guests Schoeffel and Bohemians, both of which warmed up the stage for them. They began their show with the up-tempo tune “Little Girl Big World,” and immediately broke into “Stupid” and “Mama Didn’t Raise No Fool.”

“No Way No,” their latest single was laid-back and a great deal of fun. Knowing their strong connection with their fans, the single ought to fare well on the radio airwaves.

Other noteworthy tunes were their covers of Cyndi Lauper’s 80s hit “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun” and The Police’s “Message in a Bottle,” both of which enriched their set.

The album cuts from their Don’t Kill the Magic CD were equally impressive such as the title track, the tender “How Do You Want To Be Remembered,” the upbeat “No Evil” and “Let Your Hair Down.” They closed their set with “Rude,” which garnered a roaring applause from fans, as they recited the words verbatim.

The Verdict

Overall, Magic! was able to deliver at The Paramount. Their laid-back music and mellow vocals transport their listeners to different realms. Their concert garnered an A rating, and they are recommended seeing live whenever they are in the area.
