Review: Ray Stevens honored with his own star on Music City Walk of Fame (Includes first-hand account)

Country Music Hall of Famer and Bluegrass Music Hall of Famer Ricky Skaggs presented Ray Stevens with this distinct accolade in Downtown Nashville. Stevens was officially inducted with “Miss Country Soul” Jeannie Seely, Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Brenda Lee and Ben Folds.

Ever-gracious, Stevens expressed that it is “truly humbling” to see his name included in there, especially when he looks at all of the names on the Music City Walk of Fame. He went on to thank “Nashville” for this prestigious honor.

All four musicians were recognized for their important contributions to preserving the musical heritage of Nashville, Tennessee, as well as for their contributions to the music world through song or other industry collaborations.

Stevens was one of the original pioneers of Music Row. He arrived in Nashville in the early 1960s. He would later form a lifelong friendship with Chet Atkins, who would subsequently produce country superstar Dolly Parton. In addition, Stevens was recruited to play on sessions with Elvis Presley. Stevens’ greatest hits include such tunes as “Mr. Businessman,” “Everything Is Beautiful,” “Misty,” “Mississippi Squirrel Revival” and “The Streak.” He continues to perform regularly at his showroom, CabaRay, in West Nashville.
