Review: Raphael charms on new studio album ‘The Dark of My Mind’ (Includes first-hand account)

Raphael’s album opens with the seductive single “Boys are Trouble,” which garnered a favorable review from Digital Journal. It immediately breaks into the breathy and sultry “Superstar,” as well as the mid-tempo “Your Hair,” where desire shows no boundaries.

The infectious “Keep In Touch” has an electronic vibe to it, which features Raphael’s rap vocals. It continues with the polished piano-driven ballad “Manhattan,” which showcases his versatility as a recording artist on this project. “So Quiet” is atmospheric and mesmerizing, while “Bogota” is more upbeat, flirty and fun.

“Heaven Can Wait” is slightly rebellious, while “I Get What I Want,” which features neat whistling, is sung with conviction. It closes with the piano-driven ballad “Finest Moment,” which is a fitting way to conclude this collection.

The Verdict

Overall, Raphael excels on his upcoming debut studio album, The Dark of My Mind, and it is worth more than just a passing glance. The standout tracks include “Manhattan” and “Finest Moment.” It is highly eclectic with songs about romance, seduction, mischief and intensity. This breakthrough album earns an A- rating.
