Review: Rachel Platten amazing on new ‘Wildfire’ studio album (Includes first-hand account)

Platten’s CD opens with her optimistic and empowering single “Stand By You” and it is followed by “Hey Hey Hallelujah,” her sass collaboration with fellow musician Andy Grammer. “Speechless” is a gorgeous ballad with a neat pulsating beat, that should be a radio at some point in the future.

“Beating Me Up” is reminiscent of a Kelly Clarkson vocal, which ought to be taken as a compliment. Her breakthrough single, “Fight Song,” is fantastic due to its meaningful message that listeners can relate to.

“Better Place” is an ethereal ballad, which ought to be enjoyed for its beauty and simplicity. She picks up the pace with her infectious “Lone Ranger.” “You Don’t Know My Heart” is sultry and crisp, while “Angels in Chelsea” is melodically-stunning, and its backing vocals are pure ear candy. “Astronauts” has an electro-pop vibe to it, and it closes with “Congratulations” and on a haunting note with “Superman.”

The Verdict

Rachel Platten has set the bar high already with her brand new album, Wildfire. There are no filler tracks on this release. It garners an A rating.
