Killer Queen took the stage at 9:10 p.m. and frontman Patrick Myers ran out on stage in true Freddie Mercury fashion and instantly immersed the crowd into their high-octane set. They kicked off their set with the spitfire “One Vision.” “Make some noise. I want to hear you scream,” Myers said, and he immediately broke into “I Want It All,” where he got the fans to put their hands up in the air.
“This is a rock concert,” Myers exclaimed, and got the audience to keep their hands up in the air, as he belted out “Tie Your Mother Down.”
One of the highlight songs from the first half of their show was “Under Pressure,” which garnered an enormous response. They continued with “Another One Bites the Dust,” as red lights dimmed from the stage, where he invited audience participation for this song and they were reciting the lyrics verbatim. This tune featured a killer electric guitar solo.
“You want to keep this thing rolling?” he asked and the answer was a resounding yes from The Paramount concertgoers. Myers displayed his soothing, mellow vocals on “You’re My Best Friend,” which showed his wide range as a tribute performer.
Myers accompanied himself on the keyboard during their namesake song “Killer Queen,” which was a controlled, rich and resonant vocal performance. Equally fun was the infectious “Fat Bottomed Girls,” which was sung in perfect pitch as yellow and red lights graced the stage. It was followed by impressive drum and electric guitar solos respectively.
“I Want to Break Free” was quite liberating indeed, and other noteworthy songs included “Crazy Little Thing Called Love” and “Stone Cold Crazy.” After “Don’t Stop Me Now,” they closed their set with “Somebody to Love” and the upbeat and addicting tune “Radio Ga Ga.”
For their encore, they returned with Queen’s powerhouse anthems “Bohemian Rhapsody,” which was quite hypnotic, as well as the stadium anthems “We Will Rock You” and “We Are The Champions,” where they triumphed. They concluded with “God Save the Queen,” which was sheer bliss.
The Verdict
Overall, Killer Queen put on a spectacular live show at The Paramount in Huntington, New York. Despite the thunderous and rainy weather outdoors, Killer Queen was electrifying and fantastic inside the venue. There was definitely a feeling of nostalgia in the theater, and it is evident that this music will stand the test of time.
Patrick Myers was transformative as Freddie Mercury and he embodied the timeless music of the classic rock band. One could not take their eyes off of Myers since the resemblance between him and the late Mercury was striking. Killer Queen’s live concert earned five out of five stars, and it was truly a masterclass on the music of Freddie Mercury and Queen.
