Actor and musician Michael C. Hall and his band Princess Goes released their brand new studio album “Come of Age.”
Aside from Michael C. Hall (“Dexter” and “Six Feet Under” fame), the band consists of keyboardist Matt Katz-Bohen (Blondie and Cyndie Lauper) and drummer Peter Yanowitz (The Wallflowers).
This record opens with the spitfire “Offering,” and it immediately breaks into the up-tempo and carefree “Let It Go” and “Blur,” which has a retro ’80s synth-pop new wave vibe to it.
It is followed by the enthralling title track “Come of Age,” which is filled with vivid imagery. “Shimmer” is harking while “Jetpack” is stirring coupled with tender lyrics. “Take Me Home” is a melodic metalcore banger.
Chantal Claret lends her crisp vocals on “Beija,” and she compliments the trio quite well.
After the haunting “Saving Grace,” which has an eerie vibe to it (featuring countertenor Anthony Roth Costanzo), the LP closes with the expressive “Whatever Whispers” and on an atmospheric note with the ambient “Floating,” which is a soothing sendoff and the quintessential tune that their fans and listeners can meditate to.
The Verdict
Overall, Princess Goes delivers on their latest studio offering “Come of Age.” This album showcased the growth and maturity of their musical group, sonically, lyrically and vocally. It is a guitar-heavy record with a lot of bass.
There are no filler tracks on here, and all 12 tracks are diverse and unique. Most importantly, each of the songs allows each band member to showcase their talent. Their music sounds bright and promising. “Come of Age” garners 4.5 out of 5 stars.
