Review: Piff the Magic Dragon puts on clever magic show at The Paramount (Includes first-hand account)

Most impressive about Mr. Piffles is that he is a chihuahua partaking in magic tricks, thus being dubbed as “the greatest magic performing dragon of all time.”

“Mike the Handsome” served as his opening act, who was able to do some neat juggling acts. A video montage introduced Piff as the “loser of America’s Got Talent,” however, it is safe to say that he has done well for himself, performing in some of the world’s finest venues such as Radio City Music Hall, the O2 Arena, as well as The Paramount tonight.

“Good evening everybody,” he said, prior to introducing himself. “It’s great to be back in New York. Thanks for coming out tonight.”

He began his show with a card trick, which involved guessing the card from an audience member, coupled with an innovative twist. It was followed by a game of “Dog or No Dog,” where another member from the crowd was called on stage and asked to guess which of the four boxes Mr. Piffles was hiding in. Fortunately, he was in the fourth and final box.

Another trick involved an audience member signing a $100 dollar bill, which would eventually appear in a small walnut, which left everybody in total awe, as well as his assistant Kimberley Sunshine and Mr. Piffles surviving being placed in a box with sticks impaling through. During this performance, Bon Jovi’s “You Give Love a Bad Name” played, and it captured the mood quite well.

A witty moment included a parody of a goldfish talking to an audience member, which was described as “Criss Angelfish,” who was able to correctly guess an audience member’s word selected from a book.

Their comedy magic act closed with Mr. Piffles performing his famous cannonball routine, which was filled with suspense, humor and excitement.

The Verdict

Overall, Piff’s show at the Paramount was entertaining, witty and fun. Mr. Piffles stole the show and captured the heart of the Paramount crowd doing so. They are worth seeing live whenever they are in town. Their show garnered an A rating.
