This chart milestone marks the longest run at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 charts by a reggae tune in over 22 years. IT has been certified double platinum in the United States, and he has performed it on such noteworthy television shows as Good Morning America, The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, and America’s Got Talent.
In addition, OMI will be releasing his breakthrough studio album “Me 4 U” on October 16 on Ultra/Louder Than Life/Columbia Records/Oufah Music. He co-wrote the chart-topper with his co-producer Clifton Dillon, as well as Mark Bradford, and Ryan Dillon. Felix Jaehn served as its remixer.
The song’s trumpet instrumentation and conga beat are infectious, and pure genius on the producer’s part. Its lyrics are tender and warm.
“She walks like a model, she grants my wishes like a genie in a bottle, cause I’m the wizard of love and I got the magic wand, All these other girls are tempting but I’m empty when you’re gone,” OMI sings.

The Verdict
OMI’s “Cheerleader” is refreshing and uplifting. It is certainly the song of the summer of 2015, and it will fare well on the dance-floors. It is no wonder that it has been covered by such artists as Pentatonix and James Maslow from Big Time Rush. “Cheerleader” earns 4.5 out of 5 stars. Look for it to be a major contender at next year’s Grammy awards.
