Review: Oliver Heldens masterfully updates Sidney Samson’s ‘Riverside’ (Includes first-hand account)

Upon its release, the original single by Samson was a Top 10 hit in the Netherlands, as well as the United Kingdom and Australia; moreover, the song served as a personal inspiration to Heldens, and now he has blessed it with his own stunning production, thus tipping his hat to Samson.

Heldens emerges as a true king of the contemporary house music scene. He took the cheeky feel of the original and updated it in a more modern, fresh style. “Riverside 2099” is comprised of pounding kicks and an electro bass, which gives it a slightly dark contrast to the original melody.

This summer, Heldens has upcoming show dates at such venues as Ushuaia and Pacha in Ibiza and at festivals including Ultra Europe, Untold, Barcelona Beach Festival and Balaton Sound. Heldens will also host his own stage at Tomorrowland, Sunrise Festival, and Black Sheep in the next few months.

“Riverside 2099” is available on iTunes, and on Spotify.

The Verdict

Overall, Oliver Heldens was able to dust off the “Riverside” original by Sidney Samson, twist it, and give it his unique, Midas touch. “Riverside 2099” will certainly enhance his live electronic shows. The new collaboration by Heldens garners two giant thumbs up.
